

In the middle of what is now the junction of St Michaels Rd & The Mounts, stood the large Italianate three-storey-plus-basement Mounts Shoe Factory. Built at the corner of Upper Mounts and Overstone Road from 1878, it was the b&s factory of Cove & West, later Edwin West & Co. By 1908 it had become The Mounts FactoryCo., which it remain until closure in the mid=1960s. Demolished for road widening in 1970.

Trickers, 56-60 St Michaels Rooad. The present four-bay three-storey factory with decorative glazed brick façade dates from 1937. Trickers still produce hand-made shoes on this site and in 2005 the factory appeared in the feature film Kinky Boots
